Release Notes For Version 1.13 of our AI Friendliness WordPress plugin

We’ve released version 1.13 of our AI Friendliness WordPress plugin with several improvements to how it evaluates FAQ content.

The biggest change is to FAQ scoring.

Previously, a page needed FAQPage schema to receive a full 5/5 FAQ Structure score. Based on newer guidance from Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and other AI search platforms, we no longer think that accurately reflects how AI systems find and use information on a page.

With version 1.13, a page can now receive a full FAQ score based on the actual questions and answers it contains. FAQ schema is no longer required and does not add or remove points from the FAQ Structure score.

We also improved the plugin’s FAQ detection so it does a better job with real-world WordPress content. It can now recognize more question-and-answer patterns, handle formatted headings and common FAQ blocks more accurately, and avoid giving too much credit to isolated questions that aren’t really part of an FAQ.

The basic idea behind the change is simple: AI Friendliness should measure whether useful information is clear and easy for AI systems to identify, rather than awarding points just for checking a technical SEO box.

We left the plugin’s separate Schema Markup factor unchanged for now. Structured data still has legitimate uses, but we’re continuing to review whether FAQPage specifically should remain part of that broader score as search and AI platform guidance continues to change.

We wrote up the reasoning behind the change, the current guidance from the major platforms, and how the new FAQ scoring works in more detail on the AI Friendliness site:

As AI search evolves and the major platforms publish more information about how their systems use web content, we’ll keep reviewing the scoring model and updating it when the evidence supports a better approach.
